Despite tensions, Bangladesh to continue to import diesel from India
Amid tensions between India and Bangladesh over border issues, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has decided to import 130,000 metric tonnes of diesel from India's Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL). A decision in this regard was approved at the BPC board of directors meeting on Sunday, reports Ahsan Tasnim.

India reduces coal imports by 3.1% amid strong growth in domestic production
New Delhi: Coal imports decreased by 3.1%, totaling 149.39 million tonnes (MT) compared to 154.17 MT during the same period last year. The non-regulated Sector (excluding the power sector) experienced a more significant decline, with imports falling by 8.8% year-on-year.

O2 Power bags 800-MWh battery storage project in Rajasthan
Renewable energy platform O2 Power on Tuesday said that it has secured an 800-MWh battery energy storage (BESS) project in Rajasthan. The project comprises installed capacities of 800 MWh battery energy storage system, a strategic mix of solar and components to ensure non-solar peak hour power supply, O2 Power said in a statement.
JSW Energy to acquire 3,600 MW thermal power plant in resolution deal
JSW Energy Limited has secured approval from creditors to acquire KSK Mahanadi Power Company Limited (KMPCL) through a resolution plan under India’s insolvency process. The company received a Letter of Intent on January 13, 2025, marking a significant expansion of its power generation portfolio.
Power utilities likely to see moderate growth in Q3FY25 earnings
Power utilities may report moderate growth in earnings for 3QFY25. Generation is up 3 percent Y-o-Y in Q3 on lower cooling demand and high base, to 429 billion units (BU). Peak demand was steady at 224GW in Q3FY25, a 10 per cent decline from the record highs of 250GW in May 2024. Coal-based generation held steady at 319BU, hydro generation surged by 27 per cent to 34BU. Gas-based generation fell by 20 per cent Y-o-Y to 5.4BU. Renewable generation rose 14 per cent Y-o-Y to 47BU. Year-to-date, generation has increased 5 per cent Y-o-Y to 1,387BU.

Mumbai: Sunsure Energy, the preferred renewable energy solution provider for India's leading businesses transitioning to green power, has secured INR 416.35 Crore in long-term debt financing from Aseem Infrastructure Finance Limited to fund the development of Sunsure's 150 MWp open-access solar park in Solapur, Maharashtra. The 1st phase of the plant has already been commissioned and is supplying clean energy to some of the state's biggest industrial customers. The full plant is expected to be commissioned by March 2025.

BrightNight, a renewable power producer, on Tuesday announced that it has commissioned the first phase of its 115 MW hybrid renewable power project, Optima Maharashtra, in Dharashiv, Southern Maharashtra. This is one of the state’s first co-located wind-solar projects.
